How It All Started: The Story of the Flying Easterner

Imagine finding yourself in a completely foreign country where no one understands a word you’re saying. Freedom, confusion, and the sudden realization of how beautiful and unique the Slovak language is – especially when you discover that outside of the former Eastern Block, communication doesn’t come easy with most people. There have even been times when locals mistook me for one of their own, asking for directions, which always cracked me up. Though, let’s be real, it’s usually me asking for directions, and luckily, there’s always someone willing to help. One of the most chaotic moments so far? Trying to get from Dubai airport to my accommodation without a taxi. Midnight, no metro, and me, desperately figuring out the bus system that was heading in the opposite direction. Spoiler alert: I eventually made it. But more on that when we talk about the UAE. Welcome to my world, where every adventure has its own unique flavor.

But let’s rewind to the very beginning… My first real travel experience happened when I was 17. I set off for a summer job in the Italian Alps, in a little town called Natz. Every free afternoon or day off, I spent exploring the stunning Dolomites and the surrounding nature. The guys I worked with joined me, and together we got to know the area inside out. One memory that stands out from this trip? My first big adventure – Venice and its nearby gems. Incredible experiences, and the kind of vibes I’ll be bringing back to life in the next post. So, stick around, because here on this blog, I’ll be sharing all these fascinating stories and much more.

Why am I writing this blog?

Friends often ask me about my travel experiences, but I never manage to share everything or show them all the photos. So, I decided to create this online “diary” where I can share everything that happens during my adventures—almost like writing it for myself, but also for anyone curious or looking to have some fun traveling with me. This won’t just be about tourist spots; it’ll focus on real experiences and the people I meet along the way. If you’re here for traditional travel tips, you might be disappointed. But if you enjoy life stories and want to laugh at everyday (and sometimes crazy) situations, you’re in the right place.

How will it all go down?

The blog will run like a series – every Tuesday at 5:00 PM Slovak time, a new post will drop. I’ll start from the very beginning, back when I was just starting to explore the world, and work my way up to my latest adventures. You can also follow along on my Instagram, where I’ll share real-time photos, videos, and updates about new articles.

What’s in store for you?

Get ready for experiences, bizarre situations, and funny moments from my travels. I mostly travel with a small group, shoutout to Rolo! Sometimes I also go solo or join someone on the spot, like I did in Sardinia. But more on that later, when the time comes!

So, welcome aboard this travel journal! Follow me on Instagram @hudacinh for the latest updates, and feel free to email me if you’re curious about anything specific: info@flyingeasterner.sk.

The trip to Venice didn’t start as we expected. Instead of heading straight to the famous streets, we were stopped by an ancient gem that seemed to have stepped out of another era. What was it? You’ll find out soon.

Lets’s get started, the story begins!
